We are Fineshade Studios, an award-winning Northamptonshire-based husband and wife wedding photography team. Having grown up in this beautiful county, we’ve spent the past ten years capturing over 100 weddings here. Our name, Fineshade Studios, is inspired by the picturesque Fineshade Woods - one of our favourite places to explore with a camera and the spot where Martin (unfortunately!) broke his back mountain biking in 2016. Our daughters go to school in Oundle and this is where we have our home.

Why Kelmarsh Hall is Perfect for Wedding Photography


Kelmarsh Hall is one of those venues that photographs beautifully in every direction - grand architecture, elegant interiors, and gardens that feel huge and varied (without ever feeling “too manicured”). It’s a proper Northamptonshire showstopper, but it still feels warm and personal on the day.


Multiple setup options (and they all look amazing)

There are a few different ways to set up your wedding at Kelmarsh Hall, each with its own aesthetic depending on guest numbers and the kind of celebration you’re planning. We’ve photographed a Tuscan-inspired reception in the walled gardens, an intimate gathering in the Orangery, and an unforgettable party in a tipi on the rear lawn. You’ll see each of these setups featured throughout the gallery below.

The most popular option is hosting both your ceremony and reception inside the main house. With its gorgeous architecture and original artwork, it’s easily one of the most stunning wedding locations in Northamptonshire - and it gives you a timeless backdrop no matter what the weather does.


Portrait locations + golden hour by the lake

Kelmarsh is packed with portrait spots. The gardens are vast and varied, with loads of floral backdrops and pockets of beautiful light throughout the day.

If you can, we always recommend setting aside a short window around golden hour. At Kelmarsh Hall the sun sets behind the house over the lake, and it creates the most romantic, glowy setting for couple portraits - especially if you’re up for a gentle walk down towards the water.


If it rains (because…this is the UK)

If the weather turns, don’t stress - Kelmarsh is just as strong indoors as it is outside. There are plenty of spots for bright, elegant portraits that still feel natural and relaxed.

  • The entrance hall is a favourite: high ceilings, archways, and gorgeous natural light from the large windows.

  • The library is perfect for more intimate, editorial-style portraits.

  • The ceremony room, once the chairs are cleared, is also stunning - with big windows and views out towards the gardens and lake.

For us, great wedding photography is a balance: letting real moments unfold naturally, while also knowing when a little guidance helps you look and feel your best. Our approach is calm, relaxed and largely documentary with an editorial edge - we’re there to capture the atmosphere, the connections and the emotion as it happens, without turning your day into a photoshoot.

That said, you won’t be left wondering what to do with your hands or how to stand together in a way that looks natural. We’ll gently guide you when you need it, especially during couple portraits, while keeping everything effortless and true to you.

  • 90% documentary, 10% guided. We’ll step in only when it adds value - otherwise we’re capturing things as they naturally happen.

  • Couple portraits usually take 15–25 minutes. No long disappearances from your guests - just a short window for something beautiful (often best around golden hour).

  • Timeline support that protects your time. We’ll help you plan a flow that keeps the day stress-free and gives you space to actually enjoy it.

  • We know Kelmarsh’s light and best locations. From soft window light inside the Hall to sunset by the lake, we’ll take you to the right spots at the right time - even if the weather changes.
