Weddings are a celebration of love and commitment, and couples often strive to create a unique and memorable experience for themselves and their besties. One popular trend that just keeps giving is the DIY festival wedding. With its casual, bohemian vibe and emphasis on personalisation, it's no wonder many couples are drawn to this fun-loving, exciting option. Want someone to run through the pros and cons for you? I'm your girl! In this blog post, we'll explore the factors you should take into account when deciding if this trend is right for you.
Embracing Creativity and Personalisation:
One of the most appealing aspects of a DIY festival wedding (IMO) is the freedom it offers to express your creativity and showcase your unique personalities. From handmade decorations to custom-designed signage and unconventional seating arrangements, the possibilities for a completely bespoke day are endless. As photographers and videographers, we thrive on capturing you at your very best and the more authentically 'you' a day is the better! If you're the sort of person that thrives when you're being creative then this is a major plus of DIY festival vibes!
Flexibility and Budget-Friendliness:
DIY festival weddings often take place in non-traditional venues, such as open fields, barns, or private properties. Hayley and Dom, shown here, set up their entire wedding in a field. LOOK AT THOSE VIEWS! This flexibility allows you to choose a location that holds special meaning for you, giving your wedding an intimate and sentimental touch. DIY weddings can be more budget-friendly (CAN be! Depends how much self-restraint you have an how deep your pockets are!) compared to traditional weddings, as you have greater control over how you choose to spend your budget and can opt for more affordable vendors or even enlist the help of friends and family. I personally find this resourcefulness really inspiring too; Mart and I had a largely DIY wedding - we even rented the glassware and cutlery ourselves! But putting this work in meant we had budget left to spend elsewhere, rather than being charged a premium at a more traditional venue.
Potential Challenges:
While a DIY festival wedding can be a fantastic experience, it's important to be aware of the potential challenges it presents. Planning such an event requires a significant amount of time, effort, and attention to detail. DIY festival weddings often involve intricate setups, and without professional assistance, it can be challenging to balance the demands of planning and enjoying the celebration. Arranging logistics and permits to coordinating multiple vendors and handling unexpected issues, the responsibilities can quickly become overwhelming. Hiring a professional wedding planner or coordinator can help alleviate some of the stress and ensure that everything runs smoothly - this might be a really sensible way to spend some of your budget and worth exploring, especially if you're planning on inviting plenty of guests!
Music and Extended Party Time:
One of the distinct advantages of a DIY festival wedding is the opportunity to have music outdoors and extend the party into the evening. Outdoor venues provide a picturesque backdrop for live bands, DJs, or even acoustic performances, enhancing the festival-like atmosphere. The natural surroundings and open spaces create a relaxed and joyful ambiance where guests can dance and celebrate freely. This allows for a seamless transition from the formal ceremony to a lively and energetic reception that can continue late into the night.
Embracing Nature's Beauty:
DIY festival weddings often embrace the beauty of nature, allowing couples and guests to enjoy the outdoors throughout the entire celebration. From exchanging vows under a canopy of trees to dining al fresco surrounded by breathtaking landscapes, the connection with nature adds a sense of tranquility and enchantment to your wedding day. Photographers and videographers excel at capturing these magical moments as you and your loved ones revel in the natural splendor, creating stunning visuals that reflect the unique essence of your DIY festival wedding.
Attention to Detail and Timeless Memories:
One aspect that photographers and videographers excel at is their ability to capture the smallest of details and create timeless memories. From the rustic charm of handcrafted decorations to the ethereal glow of candlelit pathways, a DIY festival wedding is often filled with visually captivating elements. Photographers have a keen eye for composing shots that highlight these intricate details, ensuring that your wedding album tells a complete and compelling story. Whether it's documenting the joyous laughter during an outdoor dance party or capturing heartfelt moments shared under the starry sky, photographers and videographers are dedicated to immortalizing the magic of your DIY festival wedding.
Planning a DIY festival wedding offers the opportunity to infuse creativity, personalisation, and a connection with nature into your special day. It allows for flexibility in budgeting, an extended party atmosphere, and the chance to capture unforgettable moments surrounded by natural beauty. While challenges may arise during the planning process, the rewards can be truly remarkable. Couples are encouraged to weigh the pros and cons, consider their budget, and envision the type of celebration they desire. Ultimately, whether you choose a DIY festival wedding or opt for a more traditional route, the key is to create an experience that resonates with you as a couple and reflects your love story for years to come.
